Director of Education
BJ earned a B.A. in History from the University of California, Berkeley, and a Master’s Degree in Social Studies Education from Teachers College, Columbia University. He possesses California teaching credentials authorizing instruction in ELA and Social Studies for grades 7-12 and is also an ICF-certified Youth Resilience Coach. He is currently completing his postgraduate Educational Therapy and Dyslexia certification. BJ has worked in education and youth development for over a decade and has taught a variety of classes, from ELA and Social Studies to courses on Social Emotional Learning and Financial Literacy. BJ also has experience planning curriculum for teachers on topics of executive function, including supporting students with learning and/or motivational difficulties.
BJ’s educational philosophy is that all students have the internal resources necessary to succeed and that the main job of the Clinician is to help unlock a student’s maximum potential. When he is not with students, BJ is most likely on a hike with his dog Sasha, catching the latest movie at the theatre, or reading historical fiction novels at home.
