Why are Executive Functioning Skills Essential for College Success?

Executive functioning skills are vital for all students, especially those transitioning to college. Students with strong executive functioning abilities are better prepared to manage the demands of higher education, handle increased workloads, cope with stress, reduce anxiety, maintain a balanced lifestyle, and achieve academic success.

What is Executive Functioning Coaching

Executive Functioning coaching involves partnering with students to develop lifelong skills needed to succeed in and outside of school. An executive functioning coach will work with students to identify areas of weakness, set goals, and develop a plan of action to achieve both short-term and long-term goals. Examples of skills they may work on include planning, managing time, test-taking strategies, study skills, staying motivated, managing stress, thinking flexibility, regulating emotions, organization, self-advocacy, and many more.

“Our son has ADHD and other learning challenges and we have been thrilled by the progress he has made in his approaches to organization, schoolwork, and learning!”

Parent of 10th grader

“Our daughter’s experience at Strategies for Learning has been truly transformative.  She went from being a frustrated learner, not understanding why she couldn’t keep up with her classmates, to a thriving student and valued member of her school community.”

Todd, Father of High Schooler
