Jennifer Schmitz holds a B.A. in Elementary Education and a Master’s Degree in Reading from Eastern Michigan University. She holds a California Multiple Subject Teaching Credential as well as a Michigan Professional Teaching Certificate, authorizing instruction in Elementary Education (K-5), Language Arts (K-8), and Reading (K-8).
With over seven years of experience in Oakland public schools, Jennifer has taught Kindergarten, 1st, and 2nd grade, while also serving as an Instructional Leader and English Language Learner Ambassador at her school. During graduate school, she worked with high school and college students, developing SAT Prep programs and designing English and Writing lessons. She has also taught Kindergarten and 4th grade abroad, broadening her expertise in diverse educational settings.
Jennifer believes that learning should be personal, relevant, and engaging. She is passionate about meeting students where they are—ensuring that while not all children receive the same instruction, each one gets exactly what they need to succeed. She enjoys fostering a love of reading, designing differentiated learning activities, and finding creative ways to keep students motivated.
When she’s not working with students, Jennifer can be found exploring the outdoors with her family, cooking, or diving into a great science fiction novel.
