Test Prep FAQ
-
Q: How many hours do you recommend?
The number of hours depends on the test and the student’s individual needs. Since every student learns differently, we generally recommend 10–20 hours to start to adequately cover content and test strategies.
-
When is the best time to start test prep?
Ideally, students should begin test prep at least 3 months in advance to allow enough time for practice and skill development.
-
Should we consider test prep during the summer or the school year?
We offer test prep year-round. However, summer is an excellent time to focus on preparation without the demands of regular coursework.
-
Is this small-group or one-on-one instruction?
Our test prep is one-on-one, allowing us to tailor instruction to each student’s unique needs, including those with learning challenges and disabilities.
-
What do you cover in a test prep session?
Each session is customized based on the student’s strengths and areas for growth. We typically cover both content and test-taking strategies, focusing on:
- Reading comprehension
- Vocabulary
- Math
- Writing mechanics
- Essay writing
- Study skills
- Working memory strategies
- Test-taking techniques
- Problem-solving skills
- Stress management/test anxiety
-
Who will be teaching the test prep?
Our highly trained educational therapists and specialists provide instruction. They have extensive experience working with diverse learning styles and supporting students with learning disabilities who require test accommodations. Learn more about our team.
-
How do I get started?
Our intake process is the first step. The Director of Education meets with the student to complete academic tasks that reflect their challenges, helping us assess their learning style in real time. This is followed by a parent/guardian consultation. If the student hasn’t taken a practice test yet, we may send one before the intake.
