Who will I be meeting with?

You will be meeting with our Director of Education or our Lead Clinician either at our Oakland learning clinic or via Zoom.

What can I expect from the intake appointment?

The intake appointment will start with a 45-minute student meeting talking about the student’s learning experiences and completing a number of academic tasks that mirror the challenges the student is having so we can begin to understand their learning style in real time. Although the intake is not a formal assessment, we may use some informal assessment tools to get a deeper understanding of the student’s needs. It is also an opportunity for us to get to know the student’s personality, temperament, and interests and for the student to understand our role. This is followed by a 45-minute parent consultation where we will exchange observations and discuss the family’s goals.

What can I expect after the intake appointment?

After the intake, the Director of Education or Lead Clinician will follow up with an email within one week to share recommendations for the next steps which will include a Clinician match and frequency of sessions.

When will I be billed for the intake?

Per our policies, you will receive an invoice via email by the end of the month. Intakes are billed at $160/hr and approx. 1.5 hours long.

Will sessions be in-person or virtual?

This will depend on the family’s preference and Clinician’s availability and will be addressed during the intake and follow-up.

How are virtual sessions different from “zoom school”?

“Zoom school” typically refers to classes that are conducted through an online platform, with a full class of students in tiny boxes while an instructor presents. It can be challenging for the teacher to determine if the students are paying attention (or even present at their computer) since children can manipulate their cameras and microphones. We are poised to provide a highly specialized level of interactive one-on-one virtual learning which can involve Zoom or other video conferencing tools. We utilize evidence-based practices, movement breaks, and real-time feedback to engage students and to provide direct individualized instruction.
