What is Structured Literacy?

Structured Literacy is a term for various evidence and research-based reading programs. It is characterized by its explicit, systematic, cumulative, and diagnostic approach to reading instruction. Structured literacy benefits most students but is vital for struggling readers and those with dyslexia.

Examples of structured literacy programs and approaches include but are not limited to Orton Gillingham, Wilson Reading System, Bart Reading System, and Read Naturally. These programs have a focus on the individual learning needs of each student and are most commonly used in a one-on-one or small group setting with a trained instructor.

At SfL, select Clinicians have completed formal training and/or received certifications in one or more of the structured literacy programs mentioned above.
